Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows you to access material not owned by Hekman Library. By submitting a request, we will contact institutions across the U.S. and around the world to obtain material for you.
Before you request material, make sure you check our Library Catalog and MeLCat (described below).
Eligible Users
Calvin faculty, staff, students, visiting scholars, emeriti, Christian Reformed pastors, and alumni (See FAQ) are eligible to use this service. All others should use their local public libraries, MeLCat, or the services offered by the educational institutions with which they are affiliated. The purchase of a Hekman Library guest user card does not include this service. See the FAQ for more information and restrictions.
MeLCat
All eligible users who need items not owned by Calvin’s library are encouraged to use MeLCat first. Typically, MeLCat is a day or two faster than InterLibrary Loan. MeLCat is a state-wide library lending service. More than six million items held in Michigan libraries are available for your use. Request an item from the MeLCat database, and pick it up at the 2nd floor Circulation Desk four or five days later.
