Description
1830--French--Hugo's Hernani at the Comedie Francaise--Hugo wanted the theatre to be Romantic, and so he wrote this play to deliberately violate the neoclassical "rules"--a pitched battle between traditionalists and Romantics ensued. Hernani triumphed, and French Romanticism began to replace neoclassicism.
